Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has lost their homes and property due to this devastating flood. Restoring Northshore, Penrose, and the supporting infrastructure, including our schools, must be the highest priority for our leaders.
However, we also recognize that McCook Lake is the heart of our community. The McCook Lake Association (MLA) has always been dedicated to the well-being of the lake. We are committed to assisting our community in this time of need. To collaborate effectively with various government agencies, we have established a committee within the MLA focused on lake restoration.
The mission of this committee is to ensure the timely restoration and future protection of McCook Lake. Our work will unfold in three phases:
1) Assessing the damage
2) Identifying restoration methods and funding sources
3) Implementing measures to prevent future damage.
Update: The SD GFP has bid a sediment/debris removal project that has now started, and that work is supposed to be complete by August 1. We are working on a broader plan to get more work done while Three Oaks, Inc. is on site.
The main pump was started May 28 to raise the water level to a target of 1084 to aid the contractor in the next phase of their work.
